The Bachelor of Health Science in Western Herbal Medicine offers specialised knowledge and application of Western Herbal Medicine, as well as a foundational understanding of nutrition. Learn to formulate herbal prescriptions using medicinal plants from around the world and how to consult with clients.
During your studies, you will learn about biomedical health science including pathophysiology, clinical assessment and pharmacology. You will learn the profile of over 150 herbal medicines from around the world, herbal pharmacognosy, synergy, quality and sustainability issues affecting prescribing decisions. Student practitioners learn to provide basic diet and lifestyle advice to optimise health outcomes. Work-Integrated Learning and Clinical Practicum require compulsory on campus attendance and are embedded throughout the course. You will gain hands-on experience at The Practice Wellbeing Centre, consulting with members of the public, under the guidance of experienced Western herbal medicine practitioners. Your study as a Western Herbal Medicine practitioner prepares you for a career in private practice and your skills are transferrable to community health settings and technical roles in the growing complementary medicine industry.
