What will I learn?

The Doctor of Philosophy is for students with a strong background in research who wish to explore a specialised topic in-depth. This program will lead to an internationally recognised research Doctoral Degree qualification (PhD) that will enhance your research and career prospects.The Doctor of Philosophy is a four year degree and study at the Doctoral level is by advanced research thesis. The requirements for the degree are not defined by a total credit point value, but by successful completion of the advanced research thesis. Full-time and part-time study is available in most cases.You will complete a supervised independent research project that produces a doctoral dissertation that makes a significant original contribution to a field of knowledge.The School of Geography and Sustainable Communities offers supervision in areas related to the Anthropocene, Climate Change, Cultural Geography, Disaster Management, Economic Geography, Environmental Geography, Indigenous Geographies, Mobilities, Population Geography, Resource Consumption and Management, Social Geography, and Urban Geography.

Entry requirements

For international students

Honours degree with 2nd class Division 1 or higher; Research Masters with at least 2/3rd of the degree comprising a thesis. UOW Masters of Research with WAM 70+; Coursework Masters with a substantial thesis and WAM 75+ or GPA 3.2 out of 4. Other forms of research experience will also be considered.
