What will I learn?

The Master of Science (Mathematics) is designed for students with a mathematics or statistics degree or with first-year mathematics, such as a mathematics major in a science or engineering degree. The course builds on your existing mathematical, statistical, research and professional skills. The degree provides you with further knowledge of mathematics and statistics, and also the social, economic, cultural and environmental impacts of this area in the global community, plus the professional and ethical responsibilities that go along with this understanding. The coursework has been designed to address topical concerns in industry and society, preparing you for further enrolment in a research degree or employment in one of the many fields actively seeking mathematicians and statisticians.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must normally hold an approved bachelor degree or equivalent in mathematics or statistics or a closely related discipline from an approved institution. Applicants with an approved degree that contains substantial mathematics or statistics (equivalent to at least first-year level mathematics topics at Flinders) are also eligible to apply. The Master of Science is not available to students who hold an honours degree in the same discipline.

English language requirements

IELTS (Academic): 6.0 Overall with 6.0 Speaking, 6.0 Writing; TOEFL iBT: 72 Total score with 18 Speaking, 21 Writing; Pearson PTE Academic: 50 Overall with 50 Speaking, 50 Writing; Cambridge C1 Advanced: 169 Overall with 169 Speaking, 169 Writing; Occupational English Test (OET): 300 Speaking, 300 Writing, 300 Reading, 300 Listening; Duolingo (Up to and including Semester 2, 2024): Overall 95-100
