This course is a 1.75 year full-time initial teaching qualification for graduates who hold a Bachelors degree in a non-Education field relevant to teaching. This could mean you pivot from undergraduate studies in areas such as English or communications to teaching, like Chelsea did to follow her true passion - hear her story on this transition. This will set you up with the specialist knowledge, skills and capabilities to teach students from Years 7-12 in a teaching area youre passionate about. When choosing to major in Science or humanities, and social sciences (HaSS), you will be expected to teach all components of the curriculum for Years 7-10 and then your specialised area for Years 11 and 12. You will also choose a second teaching area (known as a minor) from these options, except for Health and Physical Education, which is only offered as a major/minor combination. Taking on a minor study area means youll become qualified to teach students from Years 7-10 in this area. Minors in Science and HaSS require you to teach all components of the curriculum. By having qualifications in two teaching areas, youll be highly employable when you graduate.

Entry requirements

For international students

A recognised Bachelor's degree or higher, with extensive specialist study relevant to the chosen learning areas of the Secondary curriculum (i.e. English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education). To be eligible, applicants seeking a Major Teaching Area of focus must have six units of study relevant to the chosen discipline, consistent with the WA secondary school curriculum, with no more than two a first year level and at least two at third year level. To be eligible, applicants seeking a Minor Teaching Area of focus must have four units of study relevant to the chosen discipline, as defined by the WA secondary school curriculum, with no more than two a first year level. If choosing Vocational Education and Training as a Minor Teaching Area applicants must have at least one year full time equivalent of industry experience. Entry to the course is competitive, and requires evidence of consistent and sustained high achievement (grades of credit and above) in a relevant undergraduate bachelor degree.

English Language requirements: IELTS overall 6.0 with no band below 6.0; CAE - 169 overall with no band below 169; PTE - 50 with no band below 50; TOEFL IBT - 73 with no band less than 18; OET - OET with a minimum of C (250-290) in each of the four components.
