What will I learn?

Ignite your excitement and explore the various aspects of biology with the Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. Areas of study include animal physiology, molecular genetics and heredity, botany and ecology.

This program emphasizes contemporary concepts in biology and practical scientific skills applicable to both field and laboratory settings. You will explore topics ranging from the level of molecules and cells to that of organisms, communities and populations.

Throughout this program, you will engage in research as well as practical and experiential learning activities to equip you for future careers and educational pursuits. The Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences is intended to prepare you for employment in biology-related fields or for continued education within graduate programs or at professional schools, such as Medicine or Dentistry.

Study Abroad

In partnership with CREMA(link is external) and Turtle Trax(link is external), Red Deer Polytechnic is excited to offer volunteer experience for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Biological Sciences. You have the opportunity to study abroad for three weeks and become immersed in a full-contact experience with nature and coastal communities of the Southern Nicoya Peninsula.

The Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences degree can lead to further study in graduate programs or entry into a variety of preprofessional schools in areas such as Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Optometry, Dentistry and Pharmacology.

Eligibility for admission to the Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences program at Red Deer Polytechnic requires applicants to meet minimum academic requirements.

Academic Requirements

Students applying to Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences must have a minimum average of 60% with no mark below 50% in: Biology 30, or equivalent

Chemistry 30, or equivalent

ELA 30-1, or equivalent

Mathematics 30-1, or equivalent

English Language Proficiency

  • IELTS Academic - 6.5 with at least 5.5 on each band score
  • TOEFL - 83 iBT 557 PBT
  • CAEL - 60 with at least 55 on each band score
  • MET - 61 with at least 58 on each band score
  • PTE – 59 with at least 56 on each band score
  • Duolingo English Test - 115
