Program Overview

Build a broad base of artistic techniques in a studio setting

Our faculty of professional artists will help you hone your artistic voice and build a mature body of work. Get rigorous in-studio training in 2D and 3D design, observational and life drawing*, colour theory and painting and more. (*Note: You'll be required, as part of the curriculum, to study life drawing and painting. This regularly includes drawing the nude figure and the study of human anatomy.)Develop advanced skills and knowledge with specialty arts electives

You’ll choose specialty electives to build on your existing toolset, learning advanced techniques, new disciplines and intermediate theory. With a broader base of experience and specialized knowledge, you’ll increase your marketable skills. Electives you can choose from include courses in 2D design and graphic communication, 3D design, sculpture and fabrication, drawing and painting. Learn how to go into business as a professional artist, designer or entrepreneur

Our exclusive third-year Professional Practice course will teach you how to turn your artistic practice into a viable career or start your own business. You’ll meet guest professionals and learn how to apply for artist residencies, grants, exhibitions, design competitions and more. Career Opportunities

Visual arts professionals are often self-employed. This program helps prepare graduates with marketable skills and critical thinking abilities to open their own studios or businesses. Other students apply to our Bachelor's degree programs, such as Art and Art History, Animation and Illustration.

Entry requirements

For international students

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including these required courses:

One English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U) or

Mature student status.

English Proficiency Requirements

IELTS - overall score 6.0 with no individual band below 5.5

TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and TOEFL iBT Home Edition (DI Code: 9117) - overall score 80 with no individual section below 20

iTEP Academic - overall score 3.7

PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English) online or in person - overall score 58 with no individual section below 49

Duolingo English Language Test - overall score of 105 with no individual subscore lower than 85

Cambridge English Test Exams (B2 First/C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency score) - overall Cambridge English Scale score 169 with no individual score below 162

CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) online or in person - overall score 60 with no individual section below 50

Sheridan EPA test - Listening Band - 4.0 Reading Combined Band - 4.0 Writing - CLB 7

Sheridan's ESL program EAP level - A minimum score of 70% in listening and speaking and 70% in reading and writing. General Education courses and Navigating Digital Environments (INFO) minimum required grade of 50%.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
