What will I learn?

The field of sports management and coaching is changing rapidly. Professional sporting bodies require management and coaching staff to have an excellent understanding of their chosen sport, as well as strong business skills.

On completion of the course, students will have a detailed understanding of:

Player Development
Coach Education
Strength and Conditioning
Sport Finance
Sport Media and Marketing

Students will also have the opportunity to take elective modules in key areas such as:

Performance Analysis
Sport Psychology
Adapted Physical Activity.

Course Structure

Applicants can apply for both the 3 & 4 year options via the CAO application process;

4 Year, SE909 BA (Honours) Sport Management and Coaching (NFQ Level 8), and,
3 Year, SE931 BA Sports Coaching and Business Management (NFQ Level 7)

Both courses run concurrently for the first three years (1 group of students)

This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in football, both playing and coaching or in the business and administration side of sport. It is open to students of all playing and coaching abilities - not just elite athletes and coaches.

Our graduates are employed in a variety of roles in Ireland and around the world, in the Football, Sport and Business industries.

Entry requirements

For international students

Year 1 entry:

Candidates for year 1 entry to our Bachelor Degree programmes must hold a high school completion certificate that comes in at level 5 on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications. All candidates must have completed 12 years of full-time education prior to applying for entry to SETU Carlow. All subjects on the High School Completion Certificate must be successfully passed, with good grades.

Advanced Entry:

SETU Carlow welcomes applications from students who have completed some studies at higher level at other institutions and who wish to transfer onto a Bachelor degree programme at SETU Carlow.

English Language Requirements:

IELTS: 5.5 IELTS(minimum of 5 IELTS in each component)

TOEFL Internet Based test (iBT): 70 (min score of 15 in each component)

TOEFL – Computer Based Test: 196 (min score of 15 in each component)
