A degree in Music Studies allows you to investigate music from social, political, and community perspectives, examining the role and importance of music now and through history.You will learn about topics such as popular music, musical philosophy, music of the world, musical heritage of the western world, and music in the community.Opportunities to take part in internships and collaborative projects throughout your studies.Music Studies can teach you technical skills in music Â鶹ԭ´´ necessary skills such as communication, project management, and leadership.Career pathways could include: festival planning, arts administration, journalism, music teaching.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must have completed New Zealand University Entrance through NCEA; or Cambridge International Examinations (CIE); or International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) or any other equivalent overseas qualification.

Recommended preparation

The Bachelor of Music is open to everyone (except for the Performance major — see below). Having some previous study or knowledge of music will be especially helpful.

Applicants must also satisfy our English language entry requirements:

IELTS: Academic with an average score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
TOEFL (IBT): Total minimum score of 80, with at least 19 in reading, writing and listening.
PTE (Pearson Test of English - Academic): PTE with an overall score of 50 and no PTE communicative skills score below 42.
CAE or CPE: Minimum score of 169 with at least 162 in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
CCEL EAP: Level 2 with a minimum C+ grade.
Language Cert: B2 Communicator (LRWS) overall with High Pass.
