With this programme you will build your practical skills and get the knowledge required to become a carpenter in the building and construction industry. The first part of this programmes covers the basic knowledge in construction trade and the second part focuses on courses related to the carpentry trade - trade mathematics, hand tools, and project work related to different aspects of the construction industry.

You'll graduate work-ready with transferable skills for a wide range of construction-related trades.

Career & Study Outcomes

Successful graduates of the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Carpentry) (Level 3) can further specialise in carpentry by enrolling in the New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4).

Graduates entering the industry will be ready to find an apprenticeship or entry-level jobs in the building and construction sector. You will be able to execute your work with limited supervision.

Entry requirements

For international students

NCEA Level 1 or equivalent.

English language Requirement: IELTS - General or Academic: Score of 5.0 with no band lower than 5; TOEFL (iBT) - Score of 35 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge English Qualifications - B2 with score of 154; no less than 154 in each skill; OET - Minimum Grade C or 200 in all subtests; NZCEL - Level 3 (General); and Pearson Test of English (Academic) - Score of 36 with no band less than 36.

Under 20 years of age

In addition to this, international applicants under 20 years of age must have NCEA equivalency.
