What will I learn?

Overview

Our Accounting, Accountability & Financial Management MSc course will provide you with an advanced understanding of the economic, technical and institutional foundations of accounting and financial management. You’ll explore the importance of accountability and information, corporate governance, and ethics in global financial markets. With an undergraduate degree in a relevant social science subject, you’ll be ready to tackle the intellectually challenging world of finance. Through a combination of core modules and your own choice of management areas, you’ll come away fully equipped to thrive in any industry you choose to go into.

Course Aims

  • Understand the theoretical foundations of accounting, accountability and financial management.
  • Apply technical accounting and financial management techniques to a variety of scenarios.
  • Learn the internal workings of financial institutions and accounting firms and their inter-relationships.
  • Understand the importance of accounting and financial management for businesses and financial institutions.
  • Explore the need for accounting, accountability and financial management to incorporate corporate governance, social responsibility, the needs of a broad group of stakeholders and ethical considerations.

Course format and assessment

Throughout the degree students are assessed by a variety of methods, which include written examinations, coursework and individual or group projects and presentations for the taught modules. The dissertation submitted in September each year is worth 60 credits. Assignment feedback is provided within four working weeks of submission.

Entry requirements

For international students

A minimum High 2:1 undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 65% or above. If you have a lower degree classification, or a degree in an unrelated subject, your application may be considered if you can demonstrate significant relevant work experience, or offer a related graduate qualification (such as a Masters or PGDip). Overseas students will be required to demonstrate an IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in each skill. TOEFL iBT score of 100 overall with a minimum of 25 in writing and 23 in each of the other skills.
