Year in industry: On this course you will spend your penultimate year working in industry gaining first-hand experience of the exciting challenges faced by engineers and refining your professional skills. While it is the students responsibility to find and secure a year in industry host, the Faculty of Engineering placements team will support you throughout this process.

Careers overview:

During your degree, you will learn how to analyse and problem solve, work in a team and be creative with inventive thinking. Our teaching is based on research funded by Airbus, BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce. These strong links with industry see our graduates go on to work for global companies across a range of technical and managerial jobs.

Entry requirements

For students from Hong Kong

Including A in Mathematics and preferably Physics (including a pass in the practical element), General Studies, Critical Thinking, Citizenship Studies, CIE Global Perspectives and Research, CIE Thinking Skills.

For international students

A level: AAA / AABB
 

Required subjects: A in Maths and either Physics (preferred) or Further Maths as a 2nd subject, or Maths with any two of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Design, Economics, Psychology, Electronics, Computer Science.

 

For applicants predicted AAA including A in maths but not offering the subject combinations above - AAA including Maths and at least one of Chemistry, Biology, Electronics or Design.

 

GCSE English grade 4 (C).

 

Excluded subjects: General Studies, Critical Thinking, Citizenship Studies, CIE Global Perspectives and Research, CIE Thinking Skills.

 

IB score: 34 Points overall or 666 in 3 Higher Level Certificates
 

IB requirements: One of HL6 in Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches,  HL6 in Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation or SL7 in Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches plus HL6 in Physics or SL7 in Physics. Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation is not accepted at Standard Level.
 

BTEC Nationals: Following the meeting, for those considered for year one entry, our typical offer is as follows:

RQF Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Engineering – D*DD including Distinction in units:

Engineering Principles,
Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and
Further Engineering Maths
 

RQF Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Engineering or Science and A Levels – DDD + A in A Level Maths

RQF Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Engineering or Science and A Levels – D*D + A in A Level Maths

RQF Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Engineering or Science and A Levels – D + A in A Level Maths and A in A Level Physics or Further Maths

 

Access to HE Diploma: Following the meeting, for those considered for year one entry, our typical offer is as follows:

 

Access to HE Diploma 36 Level 3 credits at Distinction (to include a minimum of 15 Level 3 credits at Distinction in Mathematics and 15 Level 3 credits at Distinctions in Engineering/Science units) and 9 Level 3 credits at Merit.

 

English language requirements:
IELTS: 6.0 (no less than 5.5 in any element)
TOEFL (iBT): 80 (with a minimum of 17 in writing and listening, 18 in reading and 20 in speaking)
