What will I study?
On this cutting-edge Masters degree you'll study animal behaviour and consider how research technologies in this field can be applied to solve modern conservation problems.
This MSc Animal Behaviour Applications for Conservation reflects growing awareness that knowledge and practical skills from animal behaviour research can help us develop effective solutions to the loss of biodiversity.
Developed in consultation with international conservation organisations, our postgraduate course will help you to develop the practical and analytical skills and knowledge needed for a career in animal conservation. It will also train you in the technologies and scientific methods used in animal behaviour research and modern conservation.
These will include advanced laboratory techniques, satellite tracking, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software, DNA analysis and field techniques.
You'll study in Cambridge, where you'll benefit from our links to many conservation organisations, including the Cambridge Conservation Forum. You'll be able to make contacts and hear from expert practitioners.
Throughout your course you’ll also be supported by tutors who are world-class researchers in areas such as global change ecology, animal behaviour and welfare, and conservation genetics and evolution. We also offer a residential field trip, usually overseas, which will enable you to explore issues central to wildlife conservation in situ.
You can choose to study our MSc Animal Behaviour Applications for Conservation full- or part-time.
This is one of two postgraduate degrees in animal conservation on offer at ARU. You can also gain practical skills in the sustainable management of wildlife and habitats with our MSc Applied Wildlife Conservation.
