What will I learn?

Our faculty are theatre-makers, performance artists, theatre historians and performance theorists. They are experts in diverse interdisciplinary approaches to the study of drama, theatre, and performance.

Areas of Study

We welcome applicants with practice-as-research projects as well as historical, critical, and theoretical approaches to the following areas of study:

  • contemporary performance practice and experimental theatre
  • non-human performance
  • theatre and ethics
  • Live Art, visual art, and body-based practices
  • queer and feminist performance
  • dance and the choreographic
  • performance and popular cultures
  • contemporary theatre directing
  • interdisciplinary intersections (for example between performance and music)
  • early modern drama in contemporary performance
  • pedagogies of actor training.

Entry requirements

For international students

Degree requirements: You’re normally expected to have a Merit (an average of 60% overall) in a master’s degree. Subject-specific requirements: Your Masters-level qualification should be in a drama-related subject or a subject relevant to your chosen area of research. You should also show evidence of substantial research and/or evidence of professional performance-related experience. Your undergraduate degree-level qualification should be in drama, performance, or theatre studies. You may also be considered for the degree if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic) Advanced level (7.0 overall, including at least 6.5 in each component); TOEFL (iBT) - Advanced level 95 overall, including at least 22 in Listening, 23 in Reading, 23 in Speaking, 24 in Writing.
