What will I learn?

This short course prepares registered nurses to meet the needs of maternity services and transforms graduate nurses into registered midwives.This intensive programme will train you to help women, birthing people and families to enjoy positive and healthy pregnancy and birth experiences. All aspects of the preconception and childbirth continuum are addressed via theoretical preparation in university and supervised, preparation in a clinical setting.Youll benefit from a case-based approach to learning, which is used to facilitate development of the skills required of a competent midwife. Youll spend half of your time learning skills in clinical practice, and the other half learning the theory, through a blended learning approach.

Entry requirements

For international students

In order to be accepted onto the programme candidates must: Have 12 months full time (or equivalent) post-registration experience in an acute area of nursing Have evidence of Level 5 study (previous 5 years) Meet the programme entry criteria Demonstrate good health by being declared fit to practice by Occupational Health Department Have satisfactory academic and last/current employer references Demonstrate a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check Meet minimal residency / English Language requirements (IELTS Level 7) Diploma or Degree in Adult Nursing Nursing Midwifery Council Registered nurse with 12 months experience A satisfactory Criminal records declaration (DBS/Disclosure Scotland) is required for this course This course will involve you working with vulnerable groups of individuals, this may include children. In order to ensure that the University offers places on their programmes to suitable candidates you will be required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance (formerly termed CRB).
