About the course
The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Philosophical Theology is intended to provide you with detailed knowledge of philosophical theology, its history and a cognate area of philosophy, with the opportunity to hone your skills in research and in written and oral argument in these subjects.
Assessment
In addition to informal feedback on tutorial essays and drafts of the dissertation, at the end of the second year, students are assessed via a 30,000-word dissertation and three unseen three-hour written exams.
Graduate destinations
Most students who finish the MPhil in Philosophical Theology go on to prestigious doctoral programmes in philosophy or theology in either the UK or the United States. Others have embarked on careers in secondary school teaching, law, the Church of England, and the civil service.
