What will I learn?

Research overview

The overarching theme of the school's nutritional sciences research group is the scientific understanding and improvement of nutrition for both humans and animals.

The main areas of research include:

  • control and manipulation of the nutritional and processing quality of animal and plant products, including texture of fruit and meat products
  • nutritional enhancement of fat and protein content in animals
  • control of growth of farm animals, especially nutrient-gene interactions and synchronising the supply of energy and nitrogen
  • nutritional evaluation of feed for animals, such as the effect of dietary tannins on parasitic infections
  • programming and health
  • diet-health interactions in man, including nutrient-gene interactions

£30,200.00 (32,90,477) per year
£30,200 for low-cost projects, £35,750 for high-cost lab-based, £41,000 for technically intensive or specialised projects with high consumable costs, or £52,500 for exceptional technically intensive or specialised projects with high consumable costs.

Entry requirements

For international students

2:1 (or international equivalent) in a relevant subject or 2:2 (or international equivalent) in a relevant subject with a Merit at masters; other qualifications may also be accepted. IELTS: 6.5 (6.0 in each element). TOEFL (IBT): 87 (minimum 20 in Speaking and 19 in all other elements).
