What will I learn?

If you’re a qualified adult nurse, this qualification will enable you to specialise as a district nurse and register as a specialist practitioner in district nursing and community practitioner nurse prescribing with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC).

As part of this course, you’ll:

Prepare to use your discretion and judgement to make high-level clinical decisions in the management and provision of quality care

Learn how to apply your knowledge and practical experience in-line with the NMC's core standards for safe and effective specialist practice. This will include clinical practice, care and programme management, clinical practice leadership and clinical practice development

Complete clinical placements that will develop your practice as an effective district nurse

Build a network of contacts as you work through your placements

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants should have NMC first level registration (previously known as UKCC parts 1, 2, 7 or 12), at least a second class honours degree in the cognate subject of Health and be able to evidence recent professional development. Applicants who do not meet this academic requirement are advised to undertake the Professional Profile Development module in order to apply for recognition of prior (experiential) learning. Applicants will also need to secure a suitable practice placement in order to undertake the course. Applicants need to have consolidated their pre-registration nursing outcomes and to have gained a deeper understanding in relevant professional practice. The University welcomes applications from mature applicants who demonstrate academic potential. The minimum English language requirement for entry to study an undergraduate or taught postgraduate qualification at Leeds Beckett are English language GCSE grade 4 or above or IELTS Academic (International English Language Test Score) 6.0 with no skill below 5.5, TOEFL iBT Total of 79 to 89 minimum for Reading (18), Listening (17), Speaking (20) and Writing (17).
