We designed this MSc to improve your skills for a career in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry or conducting further research with a PhD. You’ll work with leading experts in our labs, using the latest techniques and instruments.

Course detail

The course will allow you to gain the knowledge, practical and research skills that apply in all areas of pharmaceutical sciences covering the principles of pharmaceutical analysis, pharmaceutical regulatory affair and formulation of liquid and solid pharmaceutical products, which you will need for a career in the pharmaceutical industry, research institute or biotech. You will also be given the opportunity to specialized in the area of advanced pharmaceutical analysis, quality control and regulatory affair, advanced pharmaceutical technologies or advanced biopharmaceutical innovations. An integral component of the course is a laboratory research dissertation worth 60 credits where you will work in a research laboratory involved with independent research supervised by experts in the field. The MSc course is an interdisciplinary course of study with the aim to allow you to design, develop and quality control better medicines for the future.

Teaching and assessment

This course includes a mixture of taught classes and individual study. In the labs, you’ll work Â鶹ԭ´´ expert scientists who are world leaders in their specialist areas. We’ll assess your performance through a combination of coursework and written or practical examinations. As part of the course you might also complete laboratory book records, laboratory reports, presentations and online quizzes. The course is around 80% coursework and 20% exams. We will use a delivery method that will ensure students have a rich, exciting experience from the start. Face to face teaching will be complemented and supported with innovative technology so that students also experience elements of digital learning and assessment.

Entry requirements

For international students

Minimum 2:1 first degree (or equivalent) in a Chemistry or Biochemistry-related discipline. In order to meet the academic entry requirements for this programme you should have a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme. If you are still studying you should be achieving an average of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme. Candidates with a 2:2 or equivalent may be considered if they have substantial relevant work experience. Students can demonstrate their English Language Proficiency with any of the following tests and grades: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each skill; TOEFL IBT: 92 overall, with a minimum 23 in each skill.
