What will I learn?

The Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS) in Aviation Flight (AF) prepares students for careers as professional pilots. Students in the AF degree begin their flight training in their first semester and may begin working as Certified Flight Instructors (CFI) in the program by their senior year. Approximately 80% of students in the Associate of Applied Science degree program complete the Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management as a 2 + 2 arrangement - getting both the AAS and the BS degrees in a four year period.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

A total of 60 credit hours is required to attain the Associate of Applied Science degree in Aviation Flight. The breakdown for those requirements is as follows:

Core Requirements: 18 hours selected from the following as approved by the adviser: ENGL 101, ENGL 102, CMST 101, MATH 108 or 125 or Advanced University Core Math, Group 1 Science -- 15 credit hours

Required Flight Courses: AF 201A, 201B, 203, 204, 206A, 206B, 207A -- 22 credit hours

Required Ground Courses: AF 101, 200, 202, 205, 210, 211, 260 -- 21 credit hours

Elective Flight Course (choose 1): AF 207B, OR 300A and 300B -- 2 credit hours

Total - 60 credit hours

Entry requirements

For international students

Students need to have Transcripts from high school and/or college. At SIU Carbondale, applicants for admission will be eligible for automatic admission if they are on track to complete our course pattern requirements and who meet one of the following criteria: A cumulative high school GPA of 2.75; A ranking in the top 10% of their graduating class.

English Language Requirement: Any one of the following methods will automatically meet the minimum English requirement. Applicants who do not meet the automatic English language admission requirement will undergo a holistic review to determine potential admissibility.

TOEFL (IBT internet-based test) - 68

TOEFL (paper based test) - 520

ITEP - 4.0 (academic plus only)

IELTS - 6.0

2 Face-to-face English composition classes taken in the U.S. at the college level with a grade of A or B

More than 48 college-level credit hours completed at a U.S. institution

If an applicant is from a country whose primary language is English

Graduation from a U.S. high school having spent the final 2 years in the U.S.

Meeting the SAT or ACT requirements for admission of domestic freshmen

Duolingo English Test (accepted during COVID-19 closures)- 95
