What will I learn?

The Associate in Arts in Creative Arts is designed for students who seek a broad background in the visual and performing arts, such as drawing, painting, singing, instrumental performance, creative writing, dancing, and oral interpretation.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students will create and critique works of art in a supportive environment using traditional and new art media according to established principles of art and design. Students will be able to communicate orally and in writing about art and design related topics.
Students will use critical thinking to analyze, compare and contrast world cultures and belief systems through a study of anthropology, philosophy, history, languages, and/or the humanities.
Students will develop critical thinking skills as they analyze, compare and contrast, and trace the development of art forms from different parts of the world, from ancient to modern times.

To earn this degree, students must meet the following requirements:

Completion of 60 degree applicable units with an overall GPA of 2.0.
Completion of a minimum of 18 semester units in the major with a grade of C (or P) or better.
Completion of the AA/AS Graduation Requirements, CSU GE-B or IGETC.

Career/Transfer Opportunities

The Associate in Arts in Art transfers to most four-year colleges. Students who complete the Associate in Arts in Creative Arts at Mission College may wish to complete a four-year Creative Arts major leading to a Bachelor of Arts Degree at San Jose State University, to which all units completed in this program at Mission College will transfer.

For international students

Applicants must have completed a high schools/colleges attended inside and outside the US, with certified English translation (if necessary).

Proof of English Proficiency: TOEFL iBT minimum scores 61; IELTS minimum scores 6.0 overall with 5.5 reading and 6.0 writing; PTE (Pearson Test of English) minimum scores 45; Cambridge English Language Assessment minimum scores 175+ on C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency Exam, Duolingo minimum scores 90.
