B.A. in Education with a Concentration in Secondary

USA

What will I learn?

Through more than 700 hours of classroom experience in six field placements, you'll be fully prepared for your teaching career.

If you are an aspiring middle or high school teacher, you will want an education program that puts theory into practice. As a secondary education student at Endicott, you may choose to focus in one of the following areas leading to licensure:

  • Bio/Biotech (Biology license in grades 8-12)
  • Environmental Science (Earth and Space Science license in grades 8-12)
  • English (English license in grades 5-12)
  • History (History license in grades 5-12)
  • Mathematics (Math license in grades 5-8 8-12)

The experience you will gain at Endicott is comprehensive. You will complete freshman and sophomore internships in a range of school settings, a sophomore and junior field experience connected to your secondary education courses, a junior year pre-practicum, and senior year full practicum experience. Upon graduation, you will have completed all of the requirements necessary to apply for an initial license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and you will be eligible to pursue licensure in many other states. Students receive free preparation for the required Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) as part of the program.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the education program, students will:

  • Demonstrate the critical inquiry and analysis skills needed to engage constructively in intellectual discourse within the discipline.
  • Communicate effectively in written form following the academic conventions of the discipline.
