Why Study Geology?
Our Geosciences Department is big enough to be a leader in geosciences and offer top-notch preparation in the field, but small enough that undergraduates can be part of everything that goes on. Our students go on to pursue a wide range of exciting careers. Barbara Cohen obtained a PhD and is now a scientist at the Marshall Space Flight Center. Craig Allen went on to become the chief meteorologist at WCBS radio in New York. Carolyn Porco received her PhD became the leader of the imaging team for the only spacecraft to orbit Saturn. Our faculty are true leaders in the field. Prof. Glotch is the director of a NASA institute based in the department, Prof. McLennan has been a member of the science teams for three Mars Rovers, and Prof. Hurowitz is a member of the Mars 2020 lander science team. The sky is no limit as a Geology major!
