A major in art may lead to careers:

• in the fine arts, gallery sales, or museum technology
• in visual communication, including graphic design, photography, and digital media
• and in the field of art education

This degree is for students who intend to go into primary or secondary art education, art history, commercial photography, or graphic design. Students interested in teaching art should also take course work in Valpo鈥檚 education department.

This degree program provides a broad arts education and gives students the flexibility to choose courses that best suit their interests. The curriculum includes course work in art history, studio art, digital art, and museum studies. The degree can be completed with 30 credits, allowing students flexibility to complete a complementary major or minor.

Students are encouraged to complete internships in the arts, but this is not a degree requirement.

B.A. students in art at Valpo must complete the general-education requirements for the B.A. This University-wide core strengthens communication and critical thinking skills while introducing global cultures and traditions
