What will I learn?

The study of how people us their resources, economists consider a range of factors, among them labor, land, investment, money, income, taxes, interests and spending.

Our program will equip you with the analytical tools required for conducting high-quality research and applying economic principles to decisions made in business, government and daily life. Our students develop a fundamental understanding of human behavior and master analytical techniques required to expand knowledge in the industry and research sectors.

Career paths

With a degree in Economics, you can be prepared for entry into professional schools (business, law, medicine) graduate programs, or entry-level positions in the private, government, and non-profit sectors. Our graduates enjoy successful careers in a variety of fields: Financial Advisor; Human Resource Officer; Diplomat; Stockbroker; Professor; Actuary; Economic Developer; Government Economist; Politician; Marketing Analyst; Business Manager; Military Officer; Business Consultant; Account Manager.

Highlights: The department also offers the Bachelor of Science in Economics through the Spears School of Business where students combine studies of economics with business courses in marketing, management, accounting and other business disciplines.

Entry requirements

For international students

High School GPA 3.0+ (based on a 4.0 scale) and English-language proficiency exam scores (one of the following): iBT TOEFL Internet-Based Score 61+; IELTS Academic Score 5.5+; PTE Academic Score 46+; iTEP Academic Score 3.5+, Duolingo English Test Score 95+.

Note: OSU will only accept the Duolingo English Test (DET) results from students beginning Fall 2024.

Application deadline: For applicants currently living in the U.S. - Fall: July 1, Spring: December 1 and Summer: May 1; For applicants not living in the U.S. - Fall: June 1, Spring: November 1 and Summer: March 1.
