What will I learn?

The ceramics program in the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art is designed to help students become effective artists and to make their own contributions to the field. Students will develop techniques and hands-on skills, along with an understanding of the history of ceramics, to create pieces valued for style and function.

Ceramics majors will learn to:

make clay pieces on a pottery wheel

mix glazes from raw materials

create sculpture

make tiles

fire electric, natural gas, propane, updraft, downdraft, raku and salt kilns

Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees, providing comprehensive preparation for professional practice, also are offered in the following areas:

Graphic Design

Jewelry and Metalsmithing

Painting and Drawing

Photography

Printmaking

Sculpture

Degrees and Preparation

A B.F.A. in Ceramics paves the way for a variety of creative careers, from individual artist to teacher, curator, gallery owner or recreational therapist.

Entry requirements

For international students

New Freshman

You are a high school student or have completed high school or equivalent and have never enrolled in a college/university. SAT or ACT is not required for standard admission or admission scholarship consideration for all types of applicants. An official SAT or ACT score is required to be considered for direct admission into your intended major.

All undergraduate international applicants must provide proof of English proficiency by meeting the minimum score from one of the following acceptable tests. This requirement can be waived if you meet certain criteria.

Minimum requirements for English proficiency:

IELTS: 6.0

SAT (Evidence-based reading & writing) test taken after March, 2016: 500

ACT English: 18

CAE (Cambridge English: Advanced): 169
