What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Music in Composition involves in-depth study in the craft and art of composing music. Hone your craft in one-on-one lessons to review works in progress, discuss relevant repertoire and current compositional trends, and prepare for a final concert.

Curriculum and Courses

Coursework includes one-on-one applied music lessons, ensemble performance, and courses in music theory and music history. Composition majors work directly with student and guest performers and with Composition faculty to realize new works effectively in a concert setting.

Career Options

Composition majors are prepared for a wide variety of career paths. Our graduates find work as members of professional ensembles, and as freelance artists. Others pursue graduate study at many of the nation's leading conservatories and music schools. Graduates of our program have also established careers as independent studio teachers.

Completion of formal secondary education in a pre-university curriculum

Completion must include the awarding of a diploma or the issuance of a leaving certificate or matriculation certificate generally recognized as the educational qualification necessary for admission to higher studies.
