What will I learn?

The study of biochemistry and molecular biology links the chemical, physical and biological sciences. You will apply concepts and methods of chemistry and physics to the fundamental problems of biology, in the classroom and the laboratory.

You will build a strong foundation in physical and biological sciences, with coursework tailored to meet your career goals. All of our degree tracks can prepare you for an excellent career in science or health care fields, including medicine and veterinary science. OSU's program is the only American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology accredited program in the state and one of only a handful in the entire country.

Undergraduate research opportunities

In the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, you will be encouraged to participate in a guided research experience. You can become involved with a research laboratory as early as you wish, even during your freshman year. This kind of hands-on experience will help you learn how to think like a scientist.

Entry requirements

For international students

High School GPA 3.0+ (based on a 4.0 scale) and English-language proficiency exam scores (one of the following): iBT TOEFL Internet-Based Score 61+; IELTS Academic Score 5.5+; PTE Academic Score 46+; iTEP Academic Score 3.5+, Duolingo English Test Score 95+.

Note: OSU will only accept the Duolingo English Test (DET) results from students beginning Fall 2024.

Application deadline: For applicants currently living in the U.S. - Fall: July 1, Spring: December 1 and Summer: May 1; For applicants not living in the U.S. - Fall: June 1, Spring: November 1 and Summer: March 1.
