The study of biochemistry and molecular biology links the chemical, physical and biological sciences. You will apply concepts and methods of chemistry and physics to the fundamental problems of biology, in the classroom and the laboratory.

You will build a strong foundation in physical and biological sciences, with coursework tailored to meet your career goals. All of our degree tracks can prepare you for an excellent career in science or health care fields, including medicine and veterinary science. OSU's program is the only American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology accredited program in the state and one of only a handful in the entire country.

Faculty mentoring program

To provide you with additional career and academic advice, the department’s faculty-mentoring program gives you quality time with one of many outstanding faculty members. Faculty members give new students the opportunity to find out how they completed their education and what motivated them to be the professional they are today. Faculty advisors in the department can also help you apply for summer internships nationwide, and will draw from their own career experiences to provide you with both research training and personal mentoring.

Undergraduate research opportunities

In the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, you will be encouraged to participate in a guided research experience. You can become involved with a research laboratory as early as you wish, even during your freshman year. This kind of hands-on experience will help you learn how to think like a scientist.
