What will I learn?

Individuals interested in helping others will find a degree in human services will prepare them for a variety of professional roles. Human services professionals may choose areas of practice that allow them to assist children and families, the elderly, the homeless, immigrants or veterans. In addition, human services professionals may assist people with addictions, criminal records, disabilities and mental illnesses.

Human services professionals work in a variety of organizations such as those assisting people with finding employment and appropriating food, nutrition, housing and shelter. Human services professionals may also serve as victims’ assistants or work in public safety or disaster relief.

Career opportunities

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, between 2012 and 2022 there will be strong growth in career opportunities in the field of human services due to factors such as the evolving elderly population’s need for social and community services.

Troy University’s human services program provides students with opportunities to explore their fields of interest. Recent graduates of the program work in public health departments, human resource departments, dialysis clinics, nursing homes, community ministries, hospitals, group homes, foster care settings, hospice agencies, adoption agencies, domestic violence shelters, victim advocacy offices, Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brother-Big Sister organizations, developmental disability services providers and more.

Student and faculty successes

TROY human services faculty members ensure that students learn from their experiences as well as from classroom teaching. Students will learn to collaborate and communicate with a variety of clients and teams. The successes of the Troy University human services program are shown in its students. TROY students have interned in Bosnia, been recognized as Habitat for Humanity volunteer of the year, received a scholarship to study abroad in South America and more.

Applicants must have official copy of transcripts or results for education years 10-12 and diploma.

English proficiency minimums: IELTS Academic: 5.5 overall bands; TOEFL Internet based: 60 total; TOEFL Computer based: 173 total; TOEFL Paper based: 500 total; Pearson Test of English: 46; Duolingo minimum score of 48.

Application deadline: Fall - June 1; Spring - November 1.
