The School of Pharmacy and the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior offer students the opportunity to earn a Master of Public Health (MPH) while also working toward completion of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).
There is tremendous synergy between pharmacy and public health, and with the additional skills obtained through pursuing the MPH, graduates of the PharmD program could assume expanded roles in community and public health practices.
Students in the PharmD/MPH program will build upon their acquired knowledge of pharmaceutical interventions, therapy and management, and learn how to plan, implement, evaluate and disseminate programs. Graduates will be prepared for leadership roles in communities and health agencies that prevent diseases and promote strategies to improve the health of individuals and communities.
What can I do with a PharmD/MPH?
PharmD/MPH graduates will have integrated knowledge and skills to deliver pharmaceutical care with public health principles, which will allow them to:
Confront society's changing social and health issues
Face new healthcare challenges
Harness expanded responsibilities and opportunities
Since the practices of public health and pharmacy are vital components of a complete healthcare system and the number of people requiring healthcare services has steadily increased, the demand for professionals with this specific skill set is expected to increase.
