The program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) is an interdisciplinary program offering graduate students opportunities to pursue research in cancer etiology and therapeutics, molecular virology, eukaryotic gene transcription and regulation, molecular immunology, prokaryotic genetics, molecular cardiology, and eukaryotic genetics. The interdisciplinary nature of BMB gives students the greatest flexibility possible when choosing a research advisor since all graduate faculty on the Health Sciences Division campus include some aspects of biochemistry and molecular biology in their research. Our graduate training leads to either a MS or PhD degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Our MS graduates have had success in obtaining jobs in academia and industry, as well as gaining acceptance into PhD and MD programs. The majority of our PhD graduates enter into postdoctoral fellowships in academia and industry, but others enter full-time employment in industry or go on for other advanced degrees (eg. JD). Because our program is small and flexible, we are able tailor education and research experiences to meet the goals of each student individually. The BMB program currently has over 25 faculty members and approximately 15 full-time graduate students. We encourage you to explore our research opportunities and apply to either the BMB MS program directly, or enter the BMB PhD track via the Integrated Program in Biomedical Sciences (IPBS) umbrella admissions program.
