What will I learn?

The Master’s in Exercise Physiology is designed for students interested in clinical exercise physiology and performance/personal training-related careers. The program is also designed to support students with backgrounds in other fields looking to change exercise physiology.

This is a designated STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program.

Degree Requirements: 33 hours

Core Courses: 21 hours

EXSC 636 - Exercise Testing and Evaluation 3 hrs
EXSC 637 - Exercise Program Design 3 hrs
EXSC 642 - Advanced Exercise Physiology I 3 hrs
EXSC 644 - Advanced Exercise Physiology II 3 hrs
EXSC 651 - Biomechanics of Human Motion 3 hrs
HPHP 505 - Basic Statistics in Health Promotion and Human Performance 3 hrs
HPHP 677 - Research, Theory and Design in Health Promotion and Human Performance 3 hrs

Additional Coursework: 12 hours

Students have the option of completing either 1) 12 credit hours of electives or 2) six credit hours in a culminating project and six credit hours of electives.

Restricted Electives: 6-12 hours

EXSC 688 - Internship 3 hrs (225-hour experience that does not count toward culmination project)

Any course from DTC, HLTE, PHED, SPMG, or EXSC (as approved by graduate coordinator)

Culmination Project: 0-6 hours

Students who choose to complete a culmination project will select from either option I or option II.

Option I

This option is recommended for students planning on pursuing a doctoral degree.

Option II

This option is recommended for students who did not perform an undergraduate internship or who require additional practical experience.

Entry requirements

For international students

A four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent degree from a non-U.S. institution. In addition, a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale, or 3.0 in the last half of the undergraduate program, is required for full admission. Applicants who do not meet minimum admission requirements may be considered for conditional admission.

Applicants must also meet the following program requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with a 2.75 GPA
Completion of Human Anatomy (EXSC 201 or an equivalent), Human Physiology (EXSC 202 or an equivalent), and Exercise Physiology (EXSC 300 or an equivalent)

TOEFL: 79 iBT

IELTS: 6.5

Pearson English Language Test (PTE): 53
Michigan English Test (MET): 57
