What will I learn?

The Farrington College of Education & Human Developments graduate program leads to certification in Elementary Education (grades 1-6), Secondary Education (grades 7-12; Biology, Chemistry, English, General Science, Mathematics, Social Studies/History & Spanish) or Music (grades PK-12).

Through the program, you will gain the most up-to-date teaching methods from instructors with real-world, public-school experience. You will apply your knowledge in elementary and secondary school environments through class based practicum or the optional school based experiences.

Candidates who complete this 42 credit program, including their student teaching placement, will earn a Master of Arts in Teaching.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must possess the equivalent of a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. In addition, international applicants should have achieved an excellent academic record that includes at least sixteen years of primary, secondary, and college-level education.

Music Education Audition: For candidates applying for music certification, a demonstration of personal musicianship is required, via live or video performance (video preferred). Candidates will be required to submit a video containing two contrasting solo or small ensemble selections that clearly demonstrate their skills and prior experience. Applicants will be given instructions on how to submit their video.

A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.80 or higher is required, with a GPA of 3.0 (B) or higher preferred. The Isabelle Farrington College of Education & Human Development ensures that the average GPA of accepted candidates meets or exceeds 3.0 for all cohorts in all programs. In the event that a program’s average GPA falls below 3.0, applicants with GPAs below 2.80 are referred to the FCEHD Academic Council and considered provisionally, which may result in either additional requirements to be completed prior to admission or denial of the request.
