This pathway of the RN to MN program prepares RN graduates for advanced generalist practice at the point of care with a nursing master’s. This program provides the groundwork for practice as a clinical nurse leader.
Students who choose the nursing master’s program will have a jump-start on the nursing core courses (nine credits), which will be taken during the RN to BS program. Upon admission to the RN to MN program, students complete the remaining 33 required credits in the post-licensure MN curriculum, for a total of 42 graduate credits for the MN.
Certification Eligibility
Nursing certification is important to students, alumni and the health care facilities they work in.
Graduates of the UWM Master of Nursing are eligible to complete the Clinical Nurse Leaders (CNL) Certification examination. CNLs are providers and managers of patient care. They design, implement and evaluate care by coordinating, delegating and supervising the services provided by their team, which includes licensed nurses, technicians and other health professionals.
Build upon your clinical expertise to become a nurse leader or nurse educator
The Master of Nursing (MN) prepares graduates for advanced generalist practice in culturally diverse urban communities at the point of care. Students complete undergraduate coursework followed by graduate-level courses and specialty courses leading to the master’s degree.
Students are able to choose from two pathways for this program:
Expedited RN entry to MN Path: students enroll as a “special student†while completing four courses in the undergraduate program while the student earns a Master of Nursing. Students in this path are associate degree nurses with a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing.
RN to BS in Nursing to MN Path: Students will complete the nursing core courses while earning a BS in Nursing, followed by graduate courses to earn the Master of Nursing.
Thirty nursing credits from your previous degree in nursing are awarded upon completion of one of the advanced nursing courses with a minimum grade of “B-†or higher.
WCTS Articulation Agreement for A.D.N. graduates of May 1996 or later will have a minimum total of 30 non-nursing credits applied to the UWM degree.
