Applications are open to individuals who:
- Have received a conditional or unconditional offer to study an undergraduate or postgraduate taught course at the University of Strathclyde for the 2024-2025 academic year (courses starting in September).
- Have applied for refugee status under the 1951 UN Convention on the Status of Refugees, or are a dependent of someone who has applied, and have not yet received a decision from the Home Office. Or
- Have been granted leave to remain in the UK based on Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, provided they are not eligible for student support from relevant funding bodies in Scotland, England, Wales, or Northern Ireland.
- Reside within the Glasgow area. Please note that this scholarship does not cover housing, living expenses, or travel costs for those living outside the Glasgow area.
- Have been in the UK since August 1st before the start date of their course.
Applications from prospective students residing outside the Glasgow area (in other parts of the UK) will be considered only if they provide written evidence of appropriate accommodation arrangements at the time of application.
If you were under 18 when your parent or guardian applied for asylum, or if you are an unaccompanied asylum seeker and under 18 when your asylum application was submitted, you may be eligible to have your tuition fees paid by SAAS.

Who isn’t eligible for the scholarship?
- Individuals residing outside of the United Kingdom (UK) are not eligible.
- Traveling to the UK with the intention of seeking asylum solely to qualify for this scholarship is not permitted.
- The scholarship will not cover housing, living expenses, or travel costs.
- Students who do not receive support from the Home Office for living costs.
- Students who are not intending to pursue an undergraduate or taught postgraduate degree (e.g., research students).
