You may be entitled to the bursary, providing you meet the following essential criteria:
1. You must provide a copy of your student finance breakdown from Student Finance England for the current academic year
2. You must remain enrolled on your course up to the payment of each instalment of the bursary in each academic year of your course.
3. You must provide evidence that you have left care prior to coming to university (e.g. A letter or email from your social worker or personal adviser confirming the duration of time spent in care).
4. You must provide evidence that you are estranged from your family, such as confirmation of funding as an independent (estranged) student from Student Finance England. Or a supporting statement from any of the following: your university/college lecturer, a teacher, your support worker, your social worker, a doctor, a solicitor, your Welfare Advisor, your university/college’s named contact for estranged students. Support will normally be provided to students under the age of 25. Please note that payment of the bursary will only be made to estranged students when estranged status has been awarded by SFE.
The bursary is intended to assist: students who are leaving care to attend university; or students who have been living independently since leaving care; or students estranged from their family.

Applicants will need to complete the online form on MyHub. We will use the data included on your UCAS application form or provided to us when you completed your online enrolment. If you have indicated that you have been in, or are leaving, Local Authority care, or that you are estranged from your family, we will contact you to advise of possible eligibility for the bursary. If you did not tick the relevant box on the UCAS application form or during online enrolment, then you should contact us and we will advise you on your eligibility for the bursary.
