Shoreline Community College is among the top 15 U.S. community colleges out of 1,462 nationwide, for the number of international students it hosts.
Students can save on tuition while they complete the first two years of their bachelor’s degree. The tuition and fees at institutions like Shoreline cost students, on average, 50 to 70 percent less than public or private universities respectively.
Students can choose from over 90 areas of study and earn a bachelor’s degree in their chosen field when they transfer to top universities like the University of Washington or the University of California system. Subject areas include engineering, computer science, criminal justice, business, and chemistry.
While it is encouraged, international students are not required to take the TOEFL or any other English proficiency test to be accepted at Shoreline. If students choose not to take an exam in advance or do not place at an academic level, there is an English language placement test they will take during International Student Orientation to determine their English level.
Its most popular program is the 2+2 university transfer, which allows students to study for two years at Shoreline, then transfer to study for two more years at a university to earn a bachelor’s degree.

Additionally, students can transfer to any university whose admission requirement they qualify for and to date, have transferred to nearly 200 universities in all 50 U.S. states and many other countries beyond.

Shoreline Community College offers a variety of class formats, including in-person classes, hybrid, online asynchronous, online scheduled, and more to meet what students prefer. Students can come to the U.S. study on F-1 student visa or start online overseas and then come to campus once they are able to. In that way, students can get started on their academic plans regardless of their specific situation and do not need to defer their studies.

The entry requirements at the institution now include Duolingo as evidence of English language proficiency and for the issuing of a form I-20. Basic ESL and advanced EAP English courses are also available online at Shoreline.
In September 2019, the college was a flurry of excitement as the first brand new residence hall opened for students who are at least 17 years old to choose to live on campus. Dubbed , the residence hall features on-site laundry, event space, a courtyard, and five floors of furnished apartment units with full-sized kitchens.
Opened in September 2023, Shoreline’s brand new 6000 Cedar Building is devoted to the sciences and manufacturing programs, housing biology and chemistry courses, biotech and biomanufacturing instruction, and advanced manufacturing with up-to-date facilities and tools.
In July 2024, Shoreline celebrated the ground breaking of their new STEAM building named Bracken. The Bracken Building will be a state-of-the-art facility, housing nursing, math, and music programs. This is another exciting milestone for the college community.
