The University of Lethbridge鈥檚 new CAD280-million science facility has been named Science Commons. This state-of-the-art science facility places a particular emphasis on the space it creates for innovative, interdisciplinary scientific learning and a collaborative approach between departments to solve current issues.
Science Commons is one of the most advanced scientific learning and research facilities in Canada and hosts a number of departments including Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Neuroscience, Physics and Astronomy and Psychology. The facility has been specifically shaped as an environment where the university鈥檚 best and brightest can come together to further their academic horizons and supercharge their impact on the world. It also provides a number of spaces dedicated to outreach in the sciences with local schools and other institutions, as well as the wider community.
A donation of CAD 250,000 from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) has allowed the university to launch a new course dedicated to helping students with disabilities achieve the best employment prospects possible through breaking down barriers. The CIBC Navigator Program spans five years and aims to deliver support and encouragement to students studying through the university鈥檚 Accommodated Learning Centre, as well as volunteering and collaborative learning events.
