What will I learn?

Technology innovations and improved environmental, social and ethical practices will fundamentally change how clothes are made, consumed and experienced. To support the development of sustainable solutions for the fashion industry, capabilities in technology and sustainability need to be developed and combined with traditional fashion and textile craft-based knowledge and skills.The Bachelor of Fashion and Textiles (Sustainable Innovation) provides you with the capability to work in diverse roles across the fashion and textiles sector with these principles in mind. You will gain practical, theoretical and technical skills to develop solutions, products and systems, using user-centred approaches at the intersection of design, technology, science, and art. In this cutting-edge degree, you will delve into sustainability as a concept and goal within fashion and textiles.You will explore industry-relevant knowledge and projects, ethical and sustainable practices, and material and digital technologies. You will also have the opportunity to minor in either fashion design, textile design, or fashion enterprise.As part of your studies, you will collaborate with industry and community partners in a range of activities, including partnered projects, placements, virtual studios and case studies to ensure you are immersed in current industry professional practices, techniques and strategies. You will work closely with industry across areas of materials innovation, waste solutions, and digital design, expanding on current partnered projects such as Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), Bruck Textiles, and Melbourne & Olympic Parks. We have regular consultations with our Industry Advisory Groups which consist of high-profile industry representatives. Part of these consultations is to ensure that our links with industry standards and practices remain current.Graduates may find careers across this diverse and rapidly transforming industry, in areas related to clothing production, sportswear, protective clothing, research and innovation, sustainability, and technical textiles, as well as in aligned industries, such as the health and automotive industries.

Entry requirements

For international students

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school qualification) with a minimum 65% average

To study this program you will need to complete one of the following English proficiency tests:

IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band of 6.5 (with no individual band below 6.0)
TOEFL (Internet Based Test - IBT): minimum overall score of 79 (with minimum of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing)
Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE (A)): minimum score of 58 (with no communication band less than 50)
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): minimum of 176 with no less than 169 in any component.
