What will I learn?

La Trobe's Bachelor of Food and Nutrition is designed by leading nutrition experts to equip you with the capabilities needed to pursue your ideal career in health. You'll be empowered to support individuals and communities to live healthy lifestyles and reduce the rising rates of preventable disease.With the increasing pressure on Australia's healthcare system due to ageing, obesity and sedentary lifestyles there is growing demand for nutrition professionals to educate our society on the importance of nutrition and wellbeing.Gain hands-on experience in commercial kitchens and modern science labs, and explore a range of topics including sports nutrition, food science and gastronomy, and nutrigenomics.Possible roles include:Nutritionist - Provide nutritional counselling and promote nutrition through community-level education.Food scientist - Apply scientific expertise and technological principles to the development of food products and processes within manufacturing and nutrition research settings.Health promoter -Work with community groups, government or policy to plan and develop ways to help people improve and manage their health.Nutrition policy officer or health marketing officerAdvise government on nutrition policy. Support the marketing and media of health and wellbeing organisations or hospitals.Nutrition community educator -Teach the public how to improve their nutrition and develop healthy eating habits by working with communities and government.

Entry requirements

For international students

At a minimum, you need to have completed Australian Year 12 (or an accepted international equivalent) with a certain grade. You may also need to meet subject pre-requisites

English language requirement:

IELTS: Overall 6.5, no band less than 6.0; Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score of 56 with no communicative skill score less than 46; TOEFL Internet based (iBT): Overall score of 79 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing; Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) / Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 176 with no less than 169 in any component
