What will I learn?

We provide you with a meaningful educational experience, tailored to the many roles nurses play in our community. Our course embraces a primary health care framework with a student-centred approach, that delivers a variety of high impact engaging learning experiences, diversity of authentic assessments, and contemporary digital learning technologies.

In addition to a blended model of learning that combines online learning with on-campus intensive periods, you will undertake a minimum of 800 hours of Professional Experience Placements aligned with your interests, and across a variety of five clinical and healthcare environments.

Your learning is delivered in a highly supported environment. We provide in-person support throughout your studies from dedicated nursing teaching staff, and guarantee a maximum of 1:12 staff to student ratio for your practical and simulation learning experiences. We're here to help you with whatever you need, when you need it, and ensure that your learning experience is personalised and focussed, just like the care you'll be providing as a registered nurse.

We'll prepare you to be solution focused, compassionate, agile, and resilient, developing the clinical reasoning and practical skills required for your role as a registered nurse.

Course objectives

The Bachelor of Nursing (H3N) is a contemporary and innovative course which will prepare you for work in a changing healthcare environment. With this highly regarded degree you will learn to become part of a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals.

You will be supported by a well-equipped simulated learning environment. During the course you'll also be given the opportunity to undertake work placements in both rural and metropolitan healthcare facilities. You will develop the knowledge and skills – and perhaps most importantly, the attitude – needed to offer the highest quality health care. You will learn the best practices for the provision of patient-centred care, safety and quality in practice, and research and evidence based practice in nursing.

Once you graduate from this program you will have the knowledge and skills to apply for registration as a nurse in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).

Learning Outcomes 1 Demonstrate the core values of the profession from a primary health care philosophy emphasising empathy, compassion, social justice and promotion of health across the lifespan. 2 Comply with the regulations and standards governing nursing practice in the delivery of quality, safe, ethical, evidence informed care. 3 Function as adaptive and solution focused leaders who implement an innovative and sustainable practice, cognisant of local, national and global priorities. 4 Communicate therapeutically, effectively and in a culturally safe manner with patients, families, health care professionals, industry partners and the broader community. 5 Demonstrate capability in complex healthcare environments underpinned by scientific knowledge, critical thinking, clinical reasoning and a commitment to lifelong learning. 6 Integrate evidence informed decision-making to transform health outcomes.

Career outcomes:

Critical care, emergency, surgical and medical nursing demand is also increasing. Acute care nursing, including critical care, emergency nursing, surgical, and neonatal care
Primary healthcare, including health promotion, sexual health, and child and family health
Mental health across both acute and community roles
