What will I learn?

This qualification provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling. Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work.Occupational titles may include:TilerWall and Floor tiler.State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Entry requirements

For international students

  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of course commencement.
  • Some prospective students may be asked to undertake an LLN assessment or enrolment interview prior to acceptance.
  • Must have completed Australian Year 11 or equivalent level of schooling or a Certificate III or higher qualification with an Australian institution.
  • Must demonstrate English level of IELTS 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent, such as:
    • IBT 60
    • PTE Academic 50
    • CAE 169
    • OET C
    • Duolingo 95
    • General English Advanced*
    • MOI Certificate
    • Certificate III or Higher Qualification with an Australian Institution.
  • Must have the ability to carry out workshop training involving physical activity, including lifting.
  • ISMT may also conduct an entry interview with all prospective students to confirm their details and ensure that the course selected is the most appropriate for their needs.

    *General English Upper Intermediate is generally considered to be between 5-5.5 IELTS.
