Developed for regulatory practitioners who are looking to upskill in a core capability domain for public sector regulatory practice, this micro-credential is designed for participants from a diverse range of educational or disciplinary backgrounds. The course is ideal for regulatory practitioners who are seeking analytical tools, practical insights, and best practice frameworks and skills for regulators working in government. Co-designed with the Australian Public Service and Australian Government, this course is facilitated virtually by leading experts from the Melbourne Law School. Enhance your understanding of government regulatory systems: Examine the dynamic nature of regulatory systems, and explore the role of regulators and diverse stakeholders within them. You'll analyse key frameworks, criteria, and concepts, such as policy development, standard setting, monitoring compliance, and enforcement of regulation. Gain essential skills to evaluate regulatory processes: Analyse the key legal, democratic, and ethical principles that should underpin the actions of regulators as stewards of the regulatory system. You'll use regulatory case studies to understand the relationship between the quality of regulatory processes and the performance of the regulatory system. Develop solutions for complex regulatory problems: Guided by your course facilitator, explore key differences and similarities between substantive and procedural law. Use real-life case studies to evaluate regulatory design, policy, and practice and begin to apply your new knowledge to complex regulatory challenges. Create a policy brief that demonstrates your understanding of best practice principles: Prepare and present a short policy brief that evaluates a regulation, policy, or practice of your choosing.
