What will I learn?

The Master of Engineering Science in Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology is a 2-year full-time postgraduate degree at Australias leading engineering faculty. The degree was developed to provide a deeper understanding of geotechnical theory to solve practical problems in areas including鈥痵oil mechanics,鈥痳ock mechanics,鈥痵lope stability,鈥痜oundation design, earthworks鈥痑nd dam engineering.This degree is designed for students who already have a four-year accredited engineering degree and want to broaden their job prospects through cross-training, re-training or specialisation. This postgraduate degree will allow you to meet or maintain professional accreditation standards and provide opportunities for continuing professional development.Youll work on a complex, open-ended enquiry-based project to develop your systematic approach to a problem. It will require project planning and the ability to analyse, interpret and communicate results proficiently. The completion of the research provides a pathway towards postgraduate research degrees through the development and demonstration of enquiry-based skills.

Entry requirements

For international students

Admission to the standard 2-year program requires one of the following:

4-year Bachelor of Engineering degree from Australia or accredited under the Washington Accord in one of the cognate disciplines below with a minimum 65% average*.

3-year Bachelor of Engineering degree from the United Kingdom in one of the cognate disciplines below with a minimum 65% average*.

Students with this background may still be assessed for advanced standing on a case-by-case basis.

English Language Requirements:

IELTS: 6.5 overall (min. 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL IBT (Internet Based): 90 overall (min. 23 in writing, 22 in reading, listening and speaking); Pearson (PTE - Academic): 64 overall (min. 54 in each subtest); C1 Advanced Cambridge: 176 overall (min. 169 in each subtest); C2 Proficiency Cambridge: 180 overall (min. 180 in each subtest); UNSW Global University English Entry Course (UEEC): Successful completion with a minimum overall grade of C+ and a minimum grade of C in the writing component.
