Master of Science by Research - Chemistry

What will I learn?

This program is designed primarily as a training course in advanced work. The candidate learns the fundamentals of research in an area of Chemistry and acquires skills in new chemical techniques. The candidate must undertake an original investigation but this would normally be more limited in scope than for a Doctorate. Although originality is to be encouraged as much as possible, careful supervision is necessary at all times: the work should be closely supervised in the early stages and wherever a new technique is being used. Most Masters research programs require a minimum of two years full-time study and the preparation of a thesis. The length of an MSc thesis should normally not exceed 75,000 words of text.
