Centennial College's Health Informatics Technology (Fast Track) program offers qualified college or university graduates with a software background direct admission into Year 2 (Semester 3) of the three-year program.

Health Informatics Technology (Fast Track) program combines core software engineering knowledge with expertise in health care information systems. In this advanced technology diploma program's courses, you'll learn to design, develop and maintain the next generation of electronic health record applications and other exciting software products.

Under the umbrella of the School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science, this program will cover:

  • Object-oriented software design methodologies
  • User-oriented interface design
  • The structure of health care information systems
  • Telehealth
  • Clinical workflow and IT solutions
  • Data security
  • Privacy issues within health care systems
  • Tools, Algorithms and Methods for Health Care Information Systems
  • Health Care Data Analytics and Cloud Computing

The coursework in this program will include: C#, Java, Python, Kotlin, SAS, Oracle, MS-SQL Server, Unix/ Linux, .NET Core, HTML5/CSS/JavaScript/Angular/React, mobile application development, data warehousing and predictive analytics, machine learning, and BI tools in health care systems.

To underscore the curriculum's applied focus, the Health Informatics Technology program includes two software development projects. These real-world business applications will require you to utilize all the technical, systems and business skills gained during your studies.

By the end of the program, you'll have the knowledge and skills to design, develop, modify, and test software for health care applications, as well as to analyze and model data, develop health care databases, and support decision-making based on predictive analytics. You'll also be well-prepared to use health informatics methods and software tools in a variety of settings, including hospitals, health care agencies, and public health departments.

Entry requirements

For international students

  • College diploma or university degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering, or a related discipline
  • We will consider applicants with a combination of partial diploma or degree and relevant work experience.

English Language Requirements:

  • A TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 80+ (internet based with no test below 20)
  • IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0+ (with no single test score below 5.5)
  • CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment) with an overall band score of 60
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 51 plus
  • ITEP (International Test of English Proficiency) score of 3.7 plus.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
