The Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Music is a four-year program (120 semester hours) designed for those who wish to study music in a more general Arts curriculum. As a general program, it will not prepare students for teaching music, but will prepare them for further study toward careers such as music librarian, musicology, music publishing, communications media, and sound recording.

Entry requirements

For international students

Successful completion of Grade 12 examinations in a University Preparatory Program with an overall average of at least 70% (75% for Quebec Secondary V students) or equivalent to high school.

Each student seeking admission to the BMus, or BMusEd program must audition on an instrument or voice, showing proficiency in performance, technique and sight-reading at the Grade VIII RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) level.

Students seeking admission to a Music program must take theory and ear assessments, demonstrating proficiency at the RCM Advanced Rudiments level.

English Language Requirements:

Submission of an official test score at or above the acceptable minimum, such as:

  • IELTS (Academic) - Overall score of 6.5 with 6.5 in writing no other band below 6;
  • TOEFL paper-based test - 550 with minimum TWE of 5.5;
  • TOEFL internet-based test - 80 with minimum of 20 in each category;
  • Pearson Test of English - 58;
  • GTEC CBT - 1176-1250.

Deadline:

Documentation for all applicants should be complete by 1 August, if applying to the Fall semester, or by 1 December, if applying to the Winter semester.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
