What will I learn?

The first year for all Bachelor of Music students includes courses in Music Theory, Music History, Music Skills (Sight-singing, Ear-training, and Keyboard Harmony), an introductory course in Vocal Music, a half-course music elective and one elective from outside the Don Wright Faculty of Music. Bachelor of Music students also receives weekly hour-long lessons plus regular master classes and ensemble experience. In the Bachelor of Arts music modules, lessons are optional (with an extra fee) and are often replaced with an additional elective from outside the Don Wright Faculty of Music. The BA music modules are especially well suited for students who wish to combine their music interests with other fields of study from across the University.

Second Year

Music 2629, 2635A/B, 2636A/B, 2649A/B, 2650A/B, 2710F/G, 2711F/G, 2920.

Ensemble: One, or more, of Music 2901, 2902, 2903, 2904, 2905, 2906, 2910, 2911, 2912, 2913. 1.0 course or equivalent from a Faculty other than Music.

Third Year

Music 3629, 3649A/B, 3650A/B.

Music 3920 and Ensemble* (Music 3901, 3902, 3903, 3904, 3905, 3906, 3910, 3911, 3912, 3913), or 1.0 music elective.

1.5 courses from Music 2695A/B, 3610A/B, 3611A/B, 3620A/B, 3621A/B, 3630A/B, 3640.

0.5 music or non-music elective.

*The ensemble requirement becomes an optional elective for those students not registered in Music 3920.

Fourth Year

Music 4629.

Music 4920 and Ensemble* (Music 4901, 4902, 4903, 4904, 4905, 4906, 4910, 4911, 4912, 4913), or 1.0 music elective.

1.5 courses from: Music 2695A/B, 3610A/B, 3611A/B, 3620A/B, 3621A/B, 3630A/B, 3640, 3695.

1.5 music or non-music electives (of which no more than 0.5 can be music).

* The ensemble requirement becomes an optional elective for those students not registered in Music 4920.

Entry requirements

For international students

Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete international academic qualification equivalent to Canadian secondary school.

English Language Proficiency Requirements:

IELTS: A minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required with no part less than 6.0; TOEFL: A minimum overall score of 83 on the internet-based test with no section score below 20, and 550 on the paper-based test with a 5 on the TWE; Can TEST: A minimum overall score of 4.0 is required with no part less than 4.0; CAEL: A minimum overall score of 60 is required with no part less than 60; MELAB: A minimum overall score of 80 is required with no score less than 78; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): A minimum overall score of 58 is required with no score less than 56.
