What will I learn?

Acadia University鈥檚 School of Nutrition and Dietetics is home to innovative and skilled faculty who are experts in food, nutrition, and dietetics. They will help you develop the knowledge and skills you鈥檒l need for a career in this increasingly important field.

You will acquire an understanding of food, including food science and food product development. You will develop an appreciation of current issues in nutrition and dietetics. You will gain solid knowledge in science, social studies, and professional skills that will prepare you to apply your knowledge in your future career. You will take courses in areas such as the following:

  • sustainable food systems and global nutrition
  • sport nutrition and professional practice
  • chemistry and biology
  • communications and statistics
  • food product development
  • nutrition assessment and education

This background will prepare you to work effectively in a variety of settings such as the food industry and entrepreneurship, health care, education, media and communications, and government and policy development.

You may choose from among the following programs:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition (BSN)
  • BSN (Honours)
  • BSN (Dietetics option)
  • BSN (with second major in Biology)
  • BSN (with second major in Chemistry)
  • BSN (with second major in Psychology)
  • BSN (Consumer food option)
  • BSN (Kinesiology option)

The School of Nutrition and Dietetics is the 鈥済o to spot鈥 for students interested in learning about food, nutrition, and health. You will be part of a unified team. Your professors will inspire you to learn and question. They will help you develop into a well-rounded, competent, independent leader in food, nutrition, and health.

The strong curriculum includes innovative approaches to classroom-based, online, and hands-on learning. Our outcomes are recognized locally and nationally. Program Requirements

Students must complete 120 credit hours (120h) as follows:

1. The Nutrition Core (39h).

2. All of the following: BIOL 1813, BIOL 2053, BIOL 2813, BIOL 2823, CHEM 1013, CHEM 1023, CHEM 2513, PSYC 1013, PSYC 1023.

3. 3h from CHEM 2713 or CHEM 2773.

4. 6h from MATH 1213/MATH 1223 or MATH 1253/2243 or MATH 1253/2253 or MATH 2233/MATH 2243.

5. 3h NUTR elective.

6. 6h selected from English, Art at the 1000-level, Classics, Comparative Religion, a single language other than English, History, Music (not applied, vocal or instrumental methods, or practical studies), Philosophy, Theology (THEO 3013/3023, BIBL 2013/2023, GREE 3013/3023), or Women鈥檚 and Gender Studies.

7. 6h from the Faculty of Arts.

8. 30h university electives.

9. A minor, 12h in one subject other than Nutrition, with a minimum grade of C- in each course.

TOEFL - 90 IBT with no subtest below 20

IELTS - 6.5 with no subtest score below 6.0

CAEL/CAEL Online - 70 with no subtest score below 60

PTE Academic - 61 with no subtest score below 60

Cambridge C1 Advanced Exam (CAE): Pass A,B or C - 180 or above with no subtest score below 173

PELMO - 65 with no section below 30

Cambridge B2 First Exam (FCE): Pass A - 180 with no subtest score below 173
