Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

What will I learn?

The PharmD program is a four-year professional program consisting of coursework and practice experience. Students in the program have completed the required prerequisite courses and have a competitive grade point average.

The scope of practice for pharmacists in Alberta is the broadest in the world.

Many services that once required an appointment with a family doctor can now be provided by an Albertan pharmacist, including provision of health advice, precision medicine, disease screening, injections and vaccinations, prescriptions and referrals.

In Alberta, pharmacy is much more than dispensing pills. Our faculty serves a transformative role with research and education that drives policy decisions, implementation and support for an integral new approach to health care as we educate future pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists. Academic Requirements

Recent overall GPA, performance in Biological Science prerequisite courses and performance in the heaviest credit weight year are some of the factors that contribute to overall ranking.

Typically, competitive applicants usually present with a GPA of at least 3.3. To be ranked highly, students should aim for the following Grade Point Averages: Alberta Students: 3.5 or greater (4-point scale), Out-of-province Students: 3.7 or higher (4-point scale).

It is preferable that 30 credit units are taken in at least one academic year (September to April).

  • Academic IELTS: 6.5, with at least 6.0 on each test band;
