What will I learn?

The MEd with a specialization in Curriculum and Pedagogy is a part-time, course-based, on-line program. Courses in this specialization are offered in a Cost Recovery format at an increased rate of fee assessment. Periodically the Department will run this program in cohorts. Students who wish to be part of a cohort should contact the Department for further information.

Program Requirements:

Students are normally required to complete a minimum of ?30 in graduate-level coursework and a non-credit capping exercise.

Coursework:

EDEL 567 - Introduction to Educational Research

One of EDEL 561 or EDEL 542

Eight ?3 graduate-level courses, to be selected in consultation with the advisor.

A maximum of ?6 can be taken in Individual Study courses.

Courses are to be chosen from current offerings in Elementary Education and other departments within the Faculty of Education or outside the Faculty of Education, and are subject to approval by the Department of Elementary Education

Capstone Exercise:

EDEL 599 - Capstone Exercise. This will consist of a presentation based on one piece of work that students select from their course assignments completed during the MEd program, chosen in consultation with their advisor.

Ethics Requirement:

The FGSR Academic Integrity and Ethics Training Requirement is fulfilled through registration in EDEL 567.

Professional Development Requirement:

Students in the MEd program with a specialization in Curriculum and Pedagogy fulfill the FGSR Professional Development Requirements through their program.

Residence Requirement:

There is no residence requirement for the course-based master's program.

Length of Program:

The time required to complete the MEd program varies with the individual candidate and the route selected.

The maximum time to complete the course-based MEd as set by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research is six years.

Entry requirements

For international students

The Department's minimum admission requirements are an undergraduate degree equivalent to a BEd degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution.

English language requirement:

  • a minimum TOEFL score of 93 (Internet-based) with a minimum of 24 on the speaking and writing and 21 on reading and listening bands of the test, or equivalent;
  • IELTS with a minimum overall band score of 7.0, with at least 6.5 on each band;
  • CAEL with an overall minimum score of 70, with at least 60 on each subtest.

The application deadline is March 1 for fall admission.
